Waterproof Hiking Backpacks
Please help me find a good hiking/expedition backpack?
I'm a larger guy, 6'1, 240 lbs. Extremely novice to hiking, and in need of a bag, but there are SO MANY GD CHOICES!
What I want is something massive, big enough for 10-14 days.
Waterproof is a MUST.
Plenty of pockets and such, especially a spot for my sleeping bag, which stuffs to 8x17.
Comfy, of course.
Something that won't break the bank, 2-3 bills.

Thanks Miranda, but I'm looking for something much bigger. Something I can go hiking with for 10-14 days. in the 90L/7000 ci range (I think)
Im a hug fan of Osprey packs. I have the aether 70 and love it. I will say that my initial reaction to anyone wanting a 90L pack is that you are carrying way to much stuff. What tends to happen to most people is that they will pack it if they have room. if you have a smaller pack it forces you to leave stuff at home that you really wont need. I can do 5 days in varied Rocky Mtn terrain with a full load of food and layers of clothes with no prob in a 70L pack. A good place to look for gear info is www.whiteblaze.net. Its Appalachian Trail centric, but there are alot of people that know a ton of stuff.
In respect to your pack being waterproof, there is a common phrase about it..."I know my pack is waterproof bc after it rains I have 3" of water that wont drain". You are best to just get a pack cover. Sea to Summit makes a great one out of silnylon
Another parting suggestion...try doing one or 2 overnights before attempting 10-14 days...you will learn alot about what you do and dont need.
