Hiking in West Virginia?
Is it dangerous to go hiking on the Applachian trail in West Virginia? Are the chances of getting jumped and such high?
You're pretty safe hiking in the WV hills. The people are mostly OK, and the bears mostly go the other way. But on the other hand, I hike the roads between towns, mostly doing errands. 500 miles or so a year, and nobody's attacked me yet. I've seen a few bears though. The thing to do with bears is make enough noise to convey to the bear how confident you are that if the bear starts trouble things will go unpleasantly for him, and he'll shamble off to eat berries. (Usually.)
