Storage Bags
Can food storage bags be recycled with other plastic grogery bags?
The grocery stores in my area accept plastic shopping bags for recycling, and I am wondering if I can add other types of (clean!) thin plastic (such as Ziploc bags, sandwich baggies, shrink-wrap packaging, etc.) for recycling as well.
Most liikely - but that doesn't mean they get recycled. We investigated in our area regarding the stores that take bags back for recycling - it appears to be mainly a PR gimmick. NO ONE could tell us what happens to the bags - and the local plants that actually DO recycling, say they have no use for plastic grocery bags.
I believe that the bags that are gathered by stores are "recycled" directly to a landfill.
