Winter hiking with a 48L pack?
I've never gone hiking in the winter before, but I'm getting kind of curious about it. Anyway, I have Osprey's Kestrel 48L and was wondering if it would work for winter backpacking.
I was thinking I could keep at least my sleeping pad and tent on the outside and everything else on the inside. I'm not fully aware of all the essentials that winter backpacking requires though.
So is a 48L backpack enough for winter backpacking, or would I need to get a bigger pack?

This list (above link) should to be adjusted depending on length and duration of your trip; however, you should be prepared for sudden changes in weather, emergencies and the possibility of having to spend the night out in extreme conditions.

Osprey Aether 70 might be a good alternative if you decide to invest in a larger pack.
