What is the best backpack for hiking? ( the north face, Oakley, Burton )?
If you are looking for a backpack simply for day hikes, just about any pack will do the trick. I own few of these, and I have owned and destroyed many others.
I currently use the following packs for day hiking:

Camelback and The North Face make some very good hydration packs in many sizes.

There's nothing wrong with North Face packs...just don't get one designed to be a bookbag. There are several models that have more places for laptops and iPods than they do for waterbottles and Powerbars. I didn't know Oakley made packs. Burton, DaKine, etc...usually make packs designed to carry skis or snowboards. They'll most likely have a bunch of straps and pockets you'll never need.
I have a ski pack I bought from Eastern Mountain Sports a few years ago. I don't use it much for hiking.
If you are looking for BACKPACKS...like something you would take on an overnight trip, you'll need something a bit larger. Good brands to look at are Gregory, Go Lite, Kelty, The North Face, Mountainsmith, Osprey, and Mystery Ranch. There are LOTS of backpack companies and lots of packs designed for many different uses.
Go shop around and see what suits your needs the best.
