hiking with a toddler?
i have an 18 month old that loves to walk on the trails we have a jogging stroller that makes it most of the time. my husband nor i can wear a backpack to carrier him in he has bad knees and i have a bad back. i was just wondering of ways others have tried Hiking With Kids. oh and he can go for miles it shocked both me and my husband the first time we took him. he loves the climbing we live in colorado springs co. so we have the great outdoors as our back yard. thanks for the help.

Welllll you have an obstacle there!!! I must say the love for getting around does not stop your Son, that wants to explore their world.
I took my Daughter when she was age 4-6 rock climbing, scary times for Mom, Dad was ho hum about it. But now as she is an adult, she loves to go walking and hiking, so I guess we did a good job in letting her explore her world, like you are doing!!
I congradulate both your efforts in instilling walking/hiking despite your physical ailments. Ohhh I envy you in the area you are in for this activity.
I'd say the stroller's wheels may not hold up well after a while, so how about one of those sturdy plastic wagons, you can haul the stuff too, like attach the stroller with bungee cords (maybe) to the side of the wagon when he is riding, possibly. I have one of those Red Flyer wagons, and they are heavier than the Rubbermaid or whatever they are. The pack can be a pillow also for your Son, and it can come in handy for a brief sit, unless you are 500 lbs--hee hee!!!
Ok so now your expense maybe about the same, trading an expensive good pack for the wagon. Its very possible to borrow one from someone or those thrif stores.
I'm not a happy camper, my hiking group is going on a level 3-4 difficulty, and I'm afraid I can't do it like the young spiffy ones can!!! Waaaa. Have fun on the trails and remember the happy times you all share are the best in the world, except when he finds the big rocks, and you hold your breath!! Yikess~~Luck to you!!
