Keen Hiking Shoes
I bought a new pair of shoes (Keen Hiking Shoes) and now when I do activities in them my heel hurts, why? ?
I used to do the same activities in skateboarding shoes which offer 0 arch support and are flat at the bottom and my heel never hurt. These shoes have arch support and now my heel hurts. I am wondering if I should return the shoes. Primarily I am doing kung Fu in these shoes.
I have several pair of Keen shoes and have sold them in the past as well. I really wouldn't suggest them for something such as Kung-Fu, but I admit I don't know much about Kung-Fu either.
The only thing I can think of as to why these shoes should cause heel pain is that perhaps you were wearing a non-supportive shoe for so many years that now with good footbeds your foot is starting to realign to the shape of the shoe. This is common with after-market insoles such as Superfeet and Spenco inserts. I've never heard of such a thing with Keen, but it is possible. With other types of inserts I usually told customers to remove them after a few hours of use and gradually increase the time they keep them in the shoe each day. Since Keen shoes have the foot bed already in the shoe, this is rather difficult to do. My suggestion would be actually to wear different shoes for several hours a day until your feet adjust to the Keens. If they still hurt after a week then I would visit the store and see what they have to say. Perhaps you were sized incorrectly?
