Hiking The Bob Marshall Wilderness
Hiking The Bob Marshall Wilderness
Has anyone here done any hiking or camping in the Bob Marshall wilderness?

If so, how was it?
Or Great Bear or Scapegoat wildernesses?

I’ve been to the Bob and surrounding areas. I remember one summer day in July and in one day we had four seasons. No really, at the higher elevations you can wake up with frost on the ground the sun comes out and its getting hot. Then a storm front moves in and it starts to rain, hail then snow and it passes and the sun is back out and it gets hot again. And a few hours later no sign of rain, hail or snow and its hot.
It’s a beautiful rugged place. I don’t know if there still there but 25 years ago there were the remnants of old cabins and lean-to’s from long ago.
I haven’t been there is decades but my brother lives in Montana and say its getting crowded in the summer from hikers on the main trails.
The further you get from Hungry Horse Reservoir the less people you run into. They said now you need to go to the Scapegoat wilderness area to escape the large numbers of people as most won’t go that far.
There is some good trout fishing in those areas. Nothing like fresh trout for dinner.
Be warned there are Cougars and Grizzlies in those areas. I would pack a gun or at least bear spray.
I might go back one of these days but love Alaska so much I’m not sure when I will. Maybe for a elk hunt with my bros.
You will love it. Oh bring lots of insect repellant there bad in the valleys not so in the higher elevations.
