Where can I find vegetarian walking/hiking shoes?
I need some shoes that are suitable for fell walking. I'm a vegan so they need to be non leather but also waterproof/gore-tex. I currently have some trail running shoes from synthetic materials which are perfect as they are really comfy with good grip on the soles but they are mainly mesh and so they let in both rain and water when the ground is wet and soft. Does anyone know where I can find something along these lines but waterproof? I have tried the vegetarian shoe sites but they mainly have very bulky looking hiking boots, I really want something lightweight and flexible.
You can get trail shoes which are light and flexible and have Goretex or Evolve linings.
I use a pair for mountain running, and some old hiking boots 15 years old which are no good for heavy hikes now they've worn thin but feel like fleece gloves on my feet, very flexible, and are good for dry weather runs.
Treat them with Nikwax or similar and they'll last twice as long and stay waterproof. You get different types for breathable and non-breathable fabrics and shoes.
Expensive for a can of it compared to some others but it's good stuff.
I treated my sleeping bag with Nikwax TX-10. It floats. Totally waterproof. Five years on, it's still good.
Check the camping/running/outdoor living sites for approach shoes, trail shoes, etc.
There are loads of synthetic shoes and boots around, and waterproof shoes with fabric uppers and synthetic soles.
Don't know if you're in UK or wherever. Do they use the term 'fell walking' in USA?
