About walking...?
Does anyone know the following.
At a regular pace of walking how fast does a human go? MPH please. Not power walking, just walking.
If you are a regular walker, do you walk with things like a fanny pack,(neighborhoodwalking) a backpack (hiking) etc.
I just read that a person of average weight, (woman at 110 lbs) can walk at a normal pace, a mile in an hour without extra weight. That doesn't sound right to me at all. It seems a person could go farther in an hour walk. I know carrying a back pack etc would slow one down, but even at that, it still seems like a person could go farther. Can anyone help.
I asked a question about bicycling yesterday and this question sort of goes along with that one. Thanks for your help.
I knew that article wasn't right. Now I have to find it to make sure I looked at it correctly. Thanks to those of you who have answered already. When time allows, I'll vote for best answer.
I used to walk four miles everyday for three months to lose weight. I haven't done it in a while but average, it took me one hour and ten minutes to complete the four miles. On average it took me thirty to forty minutes to complete two miles and it took twenty minutes to thirty mintues to complete one mile. It all depended on how much energy I had that day, the weather and if I felt I was going too slow, I'd speed up. These factors usually totalled an hour and ten minutes without any weights or backpacks. Of course, I used to weigh 330 and that might have affected how long it took me to walk it.
So a quick break down:
-twenty to thrity minutes for one mile
-thirty to forty minutes to complete two miles and
-one hour and ten minutes to one hour and thirty minutes (on bad days) to complete four miles
As for how fast a person walks, on the treadmill, I feel most comfortable at 2.8 mph but I get the best cardio workout walking at 3.2 mph. Average, I'd estimate a person can walk most comfortably at 3 mph.
