Hiking Northern Italy
Hiking Northern Italy

Besides Americans, do many other countries visit Canada?
I am thinking the grass is greener on the other side, and there are people from Italy and Spain and France and Germany and the Netherlands and the Swiss Alps....who dream of visiting Canada...it's like this utopia of land not overly exploited lots of open road.
And it's the whole concept that you have all this open space, abundant nature, canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking, backpacking....maritimes, prairies, Southwest Ontario, the Northern Territories.....it's amazing country! And there's so much of it compared to the small area encompassing Europe.....
Canadians need to appreciate their land more, that's what many of these visitors would say. What countries are the most frequent tourists to visiting Canada besides the U.S.?
Does it make Canadians feel good when Europeans are looking at photos of Ontario landscapes and then contemplate making the visit?
Japanese and Germans visit Canada? And Canadians often visit Italy.....the Axis Powers
I live in Yukon, and there are many, many Germans that visit here. There is even a direct flight from Frankfurt to Whitehorse during the summer months.
In the Banff area, there are a great many Japanese tourists (as well as Germans). Many signs are in English, French, and Japanese (and/or German) to accommodate them. The Japanese also love to visit Prince Edward Island, as "Anne of Green Gables" is a popular story in Japan.
I am not sure of the numbers, but these have been my observations over many years.
I checked StatsCan, and the top countries of origin for tourists to Canada in 2006 are:
US (by a whopping amount) 13.9 million trips.
UK - 842,000
Japan - 364,000
France - 361,000
Germany - 298,000
Mexico - 202,000
South Korea - 189,00
Australia - 178,000
China - 139,000
Netherlands - 118,000
That list surprised me a bit!
