need backpack advice?
should i use the gregory palisade 80 or the gregory whitney 95? color doesn't matter, and the palisade and whitney have enough carrying capacity that that doesn't matter either. which is better for 4 season/ appalachian trail/ PCT/ type hiking? i was set on the palisade, but the whitney seems so tempting. it also seems better. i am a resolute person, so please take your time in explaining the benefits or downsides of each.
I am sorry I don't have any solid advice on either of those packs. I can say that Gregory makes high quality packs, and if you must, go with whichever feels more comfortable when fully loaded.
Unless you are considering using this pack for technical mountaineering (summiting a very high peak) you shouldn't need this much volume. For through Hiking The AT or PCT you would do much better with a 40 - 65 liter pack, carrying less than 35lbs (before food and water). If your gear is that large that you need a 95 liter pack to fit it all you may want to consider upgrading some other gear before the pack. Your knees and back will appreciate it.
