How can I get Kerosene out of a canvas backpack?

I have a military backpack that is made out of canvas, and while hiking on a trip, the bottle of kerosene I was carrying broke and leaked in the backpack. I have tried using regular landry detergent and Oxyclean with hot water, but the backpack still has the smell and a bit of an oily feeling to it. I aslo had a knife case which is made out of nylon that got some kerosene on it, and I am having the same problem with it too. I would just like to know how to get the fumes and oil out of this stuff. Thanks a bunch.

Kero is an oil based product. Tr6y washing it in your sink with Dawn dishwashing liquid the after soaking it for awhile, wash it in your washer after rinsing it real good. You dont want a bubble factory going on there!

Greetings from Ohio! I’m bored at work so I decided to check out your
site on my iphone during lunch break. I enjoy the knowledge you provide here and can’t wait to
take a look when I get home. I’m surprised at how quick your blog loaded on my phone ..
I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyhow, very good site!
