WHAT ARE GOOD OUTDOOR PLACES OUT WEST TO EXPLORE?
I am really into the outdoors(camping, hiking, canoe/kayaking, etc) and i am heading out west for my first time. I am planning on being mainly in washington, oregon, montana, colorado, utah, and maybe northern california. Things I am really trying to do-
spend a week+ paddling down a river, hiking mountain trails, camp on clear bodies of water, see beautiful nature and wildlife constantly.
i am really trying to just get lost and be off the map for a while. i dont where to begin. does anyone know good places to see or start this trip out at? good companies that rent canoes out? haha i dont know this area. help!!
I live in Montana, and while places like Yellowstone are amazing and beautiful, they aren't as "hidden" & "off the map" as other lesser-known places.
I encourage you to camp in Big Timber Canyon in the Crazy Mountains of Montana. To get there from I-90, turn off the interstate in Big Timber, Mt & get onto US Hwy #191 going north there should be a US forest service sign along the highway telling you where to turn.
Quake Lake, in the Madison Canyon west of Yellowstone NP, was formed by a massive landslide during the 1959 7.5 magnitude Hebgen Lake quake. It is also a very nice place to go.
Crystal Lake, located in the Big Snowy range southwest of Lewistown, Mt is another grat place to go.
Glacier National Park isn't really unknown, but is still a very beautiful place to visit. Several companies offer white water rafting along the middle fork of the Flathead River along the southern end of the park.
