okay so I was walking home from school with a cigarette in my hand a lighter in the other and one other cigarette behind my ear. As I was walking home a cop saw me with it in my hand and he pulled over to talk to me. He wrote down all of my information, took both the cigarettes and my lighter, searched my backpack for more, and told me to walk home. I'm only 15 and I live in Pennsylvania. I knew it was illegal to buy cigarettes under 18 but I thought it was legal to smoke them under 18. I told him my parents might know I smoke but I wasn't sure. Are the police going to call my parents and tell them I had tobacco? Am I going to get fined or anything?
You bought into a common myth. It is illegal for you to possess tobacco in most states. If you did not receive a ticket, you may receive one with a fine in the mail. You may also be forced to go to court, which your parents would be required to show up with you.
