What is a good beginner mountain to hike up?
Well, I'm thinking of taking up hiking as one of my hobbies.
I'm a beginner, I want to start up, but don't know where to start?
I'm currently in BC, Canada, if you know any good small mountains to hike up here in BC that would be great. If you don't I don't mind traveling a bit, but I would like to keep in Canada or USA.
Also, for your experienced hikers, what do you bring in your backpack? Like what kind of food is good and stuff like that?

Cannot help you much with areas in BC, don't know it...
BUT, the stuff you want to bring is a bladder with water in it. Usually a 2-liter bladder is good. I usually bring a small first-aid kit when hiking anything deep in the wilderness: band aids, mole skin, pain killers, gauze, medical tape, neosporin, waterproof matches, small sharp knife and a handkerchief.
For food, I like to have high-calorie and high-fat foods like GORP made with cashews, a tuna packet with a couple fast-food pouches of mayonnaise, kettle chips, chocolate, etc.
Don't forget a whistle, this will come in handy if you get lost on the trail & will ward off wildlife like bears. A travel-sized sunscreen and hand sanitizer is good to have to. A compass is good, along with a map (or GPS if you can afford it). I also bring a light polypro long- sleaved short.
